living willow structures
Living Willow Structures are becoming increasingly popular here in Ireland
Such structures include Domes and Arbours, which are circular and 3/4 circular structures which provide the perfect space for seating on hot summer days.
Tunnels and Arches can create special entranceways into specific garden areas, or interconnect areas one to the other.
Lattice fencing is very popular to border lawns or childrens play areas, and can be as tall or short as required.
You can really use your imagination to create something very magical with living willow - we have made dragons, spiders, spirals to provide really special childrens play areas in your garden
The main planting season for living willow is between December through to March each year, but, with the rainy season extending each year, sometimes way into summertime, we too extend our planting season to fit. The rods are cut and transported to garden, where we insert each rod seperately in the design of your choice. The rods are planted to approximately 1.5ft depth promoting quick and vital root growth - leaves will begin to bud and appear on your willow structure between 4-8 weeks after planting, and by late summer, the structure will look like its been there forever!
As far as maintenance goes, twice yearly it is advisable to weave in the new rod growth following the lines of the particular structure, this will promote thickness each subsequent year, and all of the planted rods of course will thicken up as the years pass, thus providing you with a living, organic, changing structure each year.
The most basic requirement of willow is water - especially when first planted, and then kept well watered a couple of times a week through the hot spells.
Your living will structure will provide you with hours of luxurious leafy beauty for most of each year, the only months the structure will be bare will be November to February when the leaves fall and you can see the lines of the structure clearly.
We are happy to quote/discuss any ideas for living willow you might have, be it for a small kitchen garden, a landscaped garden, your school yard or even your business site.
