Faolan also offer specially designed School Workshops - Primary to Secondary Level, and beyond. These workshops are scheduled between December to March each year and are wonderful opportunities for children of all ages to experience hands-on planting processes and skills, and the chance to design their own domes, arches, tunnels or arbours which incorporate different weaving techniques. You can also opt for a more artistic based course, where the pupils can design more creative structures, possibly based around classroom themes - such as history or geography; dragons, towers, mazes, animals are just a few ideas that could be worked on, or perhaps the school logo? Alternatively, if you have a school garden or wildlife area, or even an unsightly compost heap or wall you would like hidden, why not let the children transform it into something magical with willow?
The workshops can last from 1-3 days depending on the size or scope of the project, and whether 'design' time for artwork needs to be incorporated as well. The workshop should run long enough to enable the whole group to experience hands-on opportunity in every aspect of willow planting and therefore allow each child to participate as fully as possible, as well as learning how to maintain their structure for the future.
We also encourage participation by teachers and parents too, thus creating a communal/family feel to the whole project.
Project prices vary, and any price quoted will include tuition, materials and tools, and one days free maintenance by Faolan within a couple of months of the structure being planted. Travel expenses may be added dependent of the location of your school or college.
Please be sure to book well in advance for the next season December 2008 to March 2009, as I have alot of interest in living projects during the short planting season.
